About the Origin
This seasonal espresso is sourced from Sertaozinho Village, nestled in the Serra da Mantiqueira region of Brazil, a landscape of steep slopes, rich soils, and ideal coffee-growing microclimates. Here, coffee is cultivated collectively by smallholder farmers who bring cherries together for drying and processing. The region’s elevation and volcanic soils contribute to sweet, balanced coffees with gentle acidity and depth.
About the Producers
The coffee in this seasonal house blend comes from around 100 mainly female smallholder farmers organised through the Ascarive cooperative. These growers work collectively, sharing land, labour and resources to produce high-quality cherries that are dried together on shared patios. Ascarive, a Fairtrade exporter, works alongside these communities to ensure quality and equitable returns, with premiums invested back into the village for shared benefit.
About the Variety
Yellow Bourbon is a celebrated Arabica cultivar prized in Brazilian specialty coffee for its sweetness, body and nuanced flavour. Compared to traditional Bourbon, the yellow-fruited strain often presents softer acidity and rich sugar development, which the natural process further enhances. On espresso, these characteristics yield a smooth, chocolate-forward cup with fruity highlights and a lush mouthfeel, ideal for both straight espresso and milk drinks.
